El agua y nuestra piel

Water and our skin

Staying hydrated is essential for many reasons.

It is not only important to recover all those fluids that we have been losing throughout the day through breathing, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. We must also consume drinks and foods that contain water if we want our body to function properly.

In the case of the skin, it maintains its moisture thanks to the water coming from the deeper layers and the normal secretion of sweat. For the skin to maintain its elasticity and preserve its protective barrier function, it needs water as an essential component. The water content of the upper stratum corneum is between 10 and 20% of the total water content of the body. Below 10%, the skin dries out, becomes more fragile, rough, dull and more exposed to skin diseases, in addition to making wrinkles more visible.

Water rejuvenates the skin, detoxifies it and fights against skin aging, contributing to the slowing down of the signs of aging.

Here are some benefits of drinking water on your skin:

  • Protects the skin from dehydration. Maintaining proper hydration prevents the skin from drying out and maintains its elasticity and strength.
  • Visibly improves the skin , since the hydration of the body translates into brighter and softer skin. This is also achieved in other tissues, such as hair.
  • Helps eliminate toxins that can cause skin disorders such as dull skin or acne.
  • Reduces the risk of cellulite and varicose veins . That's right, having adequate hydration improves blood circulation, which allows proper oxygenation of each tissue.
  • Rejuvenates the skin. By drinking water we prevent the skin from drying out and suffering damage caused by different external factors. Consistent hydration can help keep skin younger and healthier for longer.
  • Increases the elasticity of the skin , helping to increase the lifespan of the skin and reduce stretch marks. Well-hydrated skin can stretch further without damage.
  • Drinking water helps reduce body swelling , especially in the legs and abdomen.

How many glasses of water should you drink a day?

Contrary to what many people believe, there is no exact number on the number of liters (or milliliters) that a person should consume per day. According to experts, our body is smart enough to know when we need to hydrate and when we don't. The answer is simple: listen to your body and hydrate every time it asks you to.

Also remember to include in your daily skin care routine a key product that helps retain your skin's moisture and hyaluronic acid is ideal.
